Sahra Hassan was born in Somaliland, but grew up and studied in the UK gaining a Bachelor degree in Business Administration and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management & Leadership from SOAS - University of London.
Sahra has over 15 years experience working in the private and public sectors, especially in the areas of grant management, business development and business start-up in the UK working with local authorities in London for services to women and youth with special emphases on supporting Somali NGOs and Business start-up. Working with Somali organizations such as OSCA and Council of Somali Organizations in London, Sahra has fundraised and led projects over quarter of a million working in areas of Informal Education and Social Enterprise creation for women. Sahra designed and implemented M&E and counseled organizations through process of obtaining quality assurance such as the Matrix Quality Assurance for non-profit organizations and community projects.
More importantly, as a diaspora returnee Sahra for the past 5 years worked in the Somaliland private sector as a business analyst and as an entrepreneur setting up and managing business thus, coaching and working with businesses from diverse sectors.
With extensive knowledge and experience of the business environment in Somaliland, prior to joining Shuraako, Sahra has worked on number of projects implemented on behalf of the World Bank in Somaliland. As a Senior Fund Analyst for the Somaliland Business Fund, she managed a portfolio of over 40 businesses cross sectors through providing financial management, advice on access to finance, technical support and business development services.
Furthermore, Sahra successfully served as a Survey Coordinator and Financial Controller for the Somaliland Enterprise and Household surveys implemented by Kimetrica International for the World Bank which were conducted across all regions of Somaliland to capture the business climate and the country’s GDP.
Sahra enjoys outdoor horticultural activities and in her spare time developing her commercial business in agricultural farming.
