Sahra Hassan is Shuraako’s Associate Field Manager for the Somaliland region. She was born in Somaliland, but grew up and studied in the UK where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a postgraduate diploma in management and leadership from SOAS- University of London. She has over 15 years’ experience working in the private and public sectors, specializing in grant management, business development and business start-ups. While living in London, she worked with local authorities in the promotion of women and youth services, particularly those that supported Somali NGOs and business start-ups. More recently, as a diaspora returnee, Sahra worked in the Somaliland private sector as a business analyst and as an entrepreneur setting up and managing businesses from diverse sectors.
Prior to joining Shuraako, Sahra worked on a number of projects implemented on behalf of the World Bank in Somaliland. As a Senior Fund Analyst for the Somaliland Business Fund, she managed a portfolio of over 40 businesses across various sectors providing financial management, advice on access to finance, technical support, and business development services. She also successfully served as a Survey Coordinator and Financial Controller for the Somaliland Enterprise and Household surveys implemented by Kimetrica International for the World Bank. Sahra enjoys outdoor horticultural activities and in her spare time developing her commercial business in agricultural farming.
