Established in 2010, Burao Solar System installs renewable energy systems for offices, warehouses, and residences. Alternative sources of power are expensive in larger cities, and rare in rural areas. Burao Solar System provides phone charging, cold storage products, and solar pumping systems for wells and boreholes in rural villages.

The company was approved for a loan from the Nordic Horn of Africa Opportunities Fund to purchase solar panels, batteries, and inverters, enabling Burao Solar System to expand their business operations further into remote areas to reach more consumers and implement a pay-as-you-go service to collect payments from rural consumers. The investment also allows them to hold ample inventory to lend to their customer base.
